On a very hot summer day I pulled out my favorite beer, Sunshine Wheat, some dryer sheets, tea, and tumeric. I boiled 3 pots of water with salt, putting tumeric in one (yellow), tea in another (brown), and raspberry leaf tea in the last (red). Once at a rolling boil I added dryer sheets, letting them soak for 1 hour. I then removed the sheets and rinsed them under cold water. They are currently drying on my deck. This was a good experience in dyeing. Nothing fancy was used or purchased - just good old spices, teas, and dryer sheets (muslin would probably work well too). For future dyeing projects I will not use fresh dryer sheets, but rather those that have been discarded/used. I think used (washed and dried) fabrics may take the dye better? And an additional benefit to this method - the differently colored dryer sheets now have their own unique smell!
